Abasi Ene-Obong, Ph.D.

Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong is a seasoned business leader and scientist with extensive experience in the US, UK, and African healthcare and biotech industries. He is the founder and CEO of Syndicate Bio, a health technology company building the world’s most diverse human health datasets and applying AI/ML to usher in a new age of human discoveries and inclusive care globally. Before stepping down, Abasi founded and was the former CEO of 54gene, Inc., a pioneering African genomics company, and built a biobank of 100K+ samples connected to clinical records in 2 years. This remains one of the largest ethical and informed consented genomic resources of African samples globally. Abasi also worked as a management consultant for IQVIA and PwC, providing advisory services to US pharmaceutical companies around their global and US strategies.

Previously, Abasi worked as a research scientist in the UK and holds a PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of London and an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics from the Imperial College London. He is published in some of the world’s leading scientific journals, such as Gastroenterology, Cell, Nature, and Cancer Discovery, and was invited by Nature Biotech, alongside Bill Gates, Jennifer Doudna, and others, to co-author the “Voices of Biotech” issue. Dr Abasi has been featured in leading magazines such as The Financial Times, Wired, and Time and has received many awards, including Endpoints 20 under 40 and Fortune Magazines 40 under 40. Abasi also sits on multiple boards and committees, including ACMG’s International Outreach and Engagement Committee and Bloomberg New Economy International Cancer Coalition.
